We got a family gift for our tiny home. We added an instant pot to our cooking essentials. Living on a boat especially on the hook can add challenges to healthy cooking. I already have some great products that I use daily. I have always been a huge cook and I loved using a crockpot. I purchased a 12v crockpot, so I can use it only on solar, but they really don’t make them large enough for our family and it uses more power then it should. I was looking for another solution. The solution I found was the instant pot. I used it two times so far which is why I am saying it is a small review. The first thing I do have to mention if you are using this product in a tiny space with limited power you will need a generator if you get the size I have. Now I’m not saying if your solar panels can handle the 1000 watts that’s great, but I like to use my house batteries for stuff like lights etc. at night. With the power issue addressed I have to say that I am pleased with the size of instant pot I purchased. The pot is a 6qt which is a lot but not for me I cook for 3 adults plus 1 adult lunch every day. This instant pot has some great features soup/broth, meat/stew, cake, egg, sauté, rice cooker, multigrain, porridge, steam, slow cook. So far, the only features I tried are sauté, soup and meat. The two meals I made are Salisbury steak and whole chicken. I used the sauté feature to fry the hamburger patties prior to adding the other ingredients. Then I used the meat feature to make the entire meal. It only took me around 30 minutes to complete everything which is good because normally I would use a crockpot taking 4-6 hours to cook. The next thing I cooked was a whole 5lb chicken and vegs. I only used the sauté feature which took only 30 minutes to fully cook. I don’t know about you but when I lived in a house and oven baked a whole chicken even in the convention oven took over 3 hours. The chicken came out so yummy and was falling off the bone. I highly recommend this product and will be posting recipes soon.

Cooking on a boat can be a challenge. Daily cooking on a boat can become a challenge and a chore in itself without the right equipment. Over the next few months we will be reviewing some different types of gas cooking stoves and several types of electric stoves and cookware.
Because we live full time off grid we are limited on the amount of electrical generation we produce in a days time so we must rely on some other type of non electrical gas stovetop to cook a majority of our meals. Today I am reviewing a multi-gas stovetop we picked up a few months ago. it is the "Gas One" two burner stove top and griddle. It is multi-gas and will use both propane and butane gases. For the past 2 months we have been using butane as the main fuel and only recently moved over to propane after using our supply of butane canisters. Changing the canisters and the cylinders are easy. When using the propane the two cylinders will attach to the back of the burners with two hoses that are supplied with the stove. It will take up some counter space behind the burners. The butane canisters are placed in the compartment adjacent to the burners and have a handle you need to push down to move the canister into the assembly. The butane burned a lot hotter than the propane. water boiled faster and food cooked faster with the butane than with the propane. The con of the butane is you run out faster and are constantly replacing the canisters, most times in the middle of cooking a meal. We switched over to the one pound propane cylinders last month. We run out of fuel a lot less frequent (which is very nice) and don't seem to mind the couple of degrees cooler burning surface. The propane lasts around 15 days on a one pound cylinder compared to the sometimes daily replacement of the butane. The lighting is very quick with a flip of the gas adjustment knob to full open you will hear a click of the piezo igniter. The flame adjusts nicely till you try to drop it down to a simmer flame. At the low set point the flame will go out on occasion leading to the danger of a gas leak and possibly a hazard if not watching the stove (which I would never recommend with any stove). The griddle attachment is a very nice addition that we didn't even expect when we ordered the stove. It is perfect for grilling, making pancakes or anything else that requires a flat skillet. Breakfast is no longer a chore as we can cook every thing at the same time and even have one side cooler than the other by adjusting the knobs on the separate burners. Overall we have loved the Gas One stovetop burner and highly recommend this for any tiny home setup. we are not sponsored by this product. I wanted to take a moment to tell you about this outdoor foundry bag. This backpack is made for wet weather and watersports. I live on a sailboat that is docked in open water so we must drive our dinghy to shore all the time. Since we must dinghy to shore I needed a bag that would keep my clothes dry. I also needed a bag to keep my laptop dry since I work from home as a blogger I wanted to keep my traveling office dry. We have tried several bags claiming to be 100% waterproof but failed.
Keeping our things dry it is important and having a rugged waterproof bag like this one is nice. A great feature of this bag is not only is it 100% waterproof but if it is immersed in water it floats. If you need to keep your stuff dry like me I highly recommend this bag. The bag is perfect for kayaking, surfing and any other water use.
